A Slow Autumn Weekend in Saugatuck

Autumn is our favourite season at Park House Inn. The summer crowds thin out, the trees along the Kalamazoo River turn gold and copper, and the evenings are made for a fire and a good book. If you are planning a fall getaway, this is how we would spend a slow weekend in Saugatuck.

Friday: arrive and settle in

Check in, leave your bags in your room and walk into downtown Saugatuck. The galleries, boutiques and cafés are a short stroll from our front porch, and there is no better time to wander them than a crisp autumn evening.

Saturday: dunes, woods and the lake

Start with a slow breakfast at the inn, then head to Saugatuck Dunes State Park, where wooded trails wind over the dunes to a quiet stretch of Lake Michigan shoreline. In the afternoon, climb Mount Baldhead for views over the river, the town and the lake, and end the day watching the sun go down at Oval Beach.

Sunday: apples and a long goodbye

Before you head home, drive out to Crane's Orchards in nearby Fennville for apple picking and a few fall treats for the road.

Whatever you choose, the inn will be waiting at the end of each day, with a crackling fire, crisp organic sheets and a quiet place to rest. Book your fall stay.
