169 Years of Stories. Now With a New Keeper.

Built in 1857 by lumber baron H.D. Moore, the Park House is one of Saugatuck's oldest residences. Moore built it so his wife would join him in Saugatuck as he grew his lumber empire. Now, while we are not fans of lumber barons or empires around here, we do love history, because there are always other stories to be told.

For example, in 1879, Susan B. Anthony herself slept under this roof, guest of Mrs. H.D. (Tamar) Moore. She came to Saugatuck on a mission: delivering speeches at public meetings across southwest Michigan to win support for women's rights. The 19th Amendment wouldn't pass until 1920, fourteen years after her death. She never stopped fighting.

Over the decades, this building has been a restaurant, an antique store, a boarding house, a summer hotel, and a private home. Now it's something new again: an Inn owned and run by a 1st generation Pakistani-American woman who had big dreams and dared to walk the path less known.

I think Ms. B. Anthony would be proud.
